Concept - Likelihood
Definition
In Gaussian Naive Bayes, the likelihood of a feature value is “the y-axis coordinate on the curve that corresponds to the x-axis coordinate” (s.198), i.e. the height of the class’s Gaussian at the observed value.
Example (s.197-206)
- (s.202)
- (s.203)
- = a really, really small number (s.206)
- Class score = prior product of these (s.195-201).

For text, the likelihood of each word is a count ratio per class: see Concept - Word Likelihood (e.g. ).
From chunk 01 (s.1-30)
Likelihood = probability of observing the sample under a distribution; with independence (s.9). In Bayes’ rule is “likelihood of given ” (s.13). Concept - Maximum Likelihood Estimation maximizes it; Concept - Maximum A Posteriori multiplies it by the prior.
