Concept - Iris Biometric System

The “Practical Application” (s.32) is an iris-based banking system.

  • Customer domain: personal PC/laptop with a SecureCam client, Java, and a browser showing home banking screens; sends a compressed iris image file (20 Kbytes maximum) over the Internet.
  • Existing IT infrastructure: web server, firewall, local server, PIN server; allows access either by PIN or iris biometric (iris for higher valued transactions).
  • Verification server (over the bank intranet): link decryption, image reconstruction, iris encoding, matching, iris database, administrative application. It matches the iris code and CIN to the database and returns a status allowing or denying access.
  • Bank branch office (public-use device): enroll or verify station with enroll application/GUI and link encryption; customers enroll at a bank branch and access their account via an ATM.
